Second Wedding Anniversary Getaway: Our Egyptian Story about the 2nd Year of Marriage

This past September was our second wedding anniversary. My husband is Egyptian and grew up in a small village so the idea of celebrating an anniversary is very foreign to him.

We had been separated for 3 months prior to September while waiting for visa approval so needless to say we were anxious and excited to see each other, for not only would we be celebrating our wedding anniversary but we would be also celebrating his home coming.

We were married in Egypt and the traditions there were that you remain in the home of the husband for the duration of the honeymoon. Neither of us were able to really experience a true honeymoon so we had planned something extra special for our second wedding anniversary.

My husband flew into Wichita, Kansas near where I live and I picked him up from the airport. It was so magical seeing him, almost like the first time we met.

We aren't very rich but I had decided that I would save my money so that for his first night in America he would experience an amazingly luxurious hotel. The Hotel at old town is an old Victorian hotel that serves breakfast in the morning, has a kitchen in each room and a very special suite that has a two person whirlpool tube in the room.

I had reserved a room for the night and prior to him coming began cooking his favorite meal. The best way my husband feels loved - FOOD! It is an Egyptian dish that I made countless times when we were first married, one that his mother had taught me.

I made him close his eyes as we entered the room and then fed him a taste of my meal that I was working on. He was so happy to have even the smallest piece from his home.

I then played a mix c.d. of all the songs that meant something to us - ones that we listened to during our courtship and early marriage days. And we began to dance in our awkward silly way.

It was so nice to finally have an anniversary getaway from the hectic life and really celebrate our second wedding anniversary.
